After reading an interview from the EU Commission, Active office was inspired to say our opinion on the issue of self regulation of the alcohol industry in more creative way. We had a very creative brainstorming process undersstanding what self regulation of the alcohol industry reminds us on. We traveled back to our childhood and came up with many ironic comparisons. We believe they can very accurately create the picture of having the alcohol industry self regulate themselves.
The biannual ACTIVE Congress and annual ACTIVE summer camp will in 2012 take place at Úlfljótsvatn Scout Center on Iceland. We expect hundreds of young people from all over Europe to come and take part in numerous interesting workshops, discussions, adrenaline activities. The country of ice and fire in combination with ACTIVE – that sounds promising!
This is quite close to what you can expect when ACTIVE people meet in Iceland.
The camp starts 7 august 2012 and ends 14 august 2012 – yes, from Tuesday to Tuesday. And yes, we know that several countries won't have holidays that late in August. But unfortunately the camp site won't be available earlier. So some member organizations are planning additional trips through Iceland before the camp, eg. KiM Switzerland (already overbooked, sorry) and Juvente Germany. In case you want to join them: see here.
Úlfljótsvatn is approx. 65 km east from the capital city of Iceland, Reykjavík. The land is originally a farmland and a property of The City of Reykjavík. The scouts in Iceland rent a piece of the land and have been doing that for over 60 years. Úlfljótsvatn has been for decades the center for outdoors activities, leader training and summer camp for scouts and guides in Iceland.
Úlfljótsvatn is a lake in the south western part of Iceland, located on the area of the communities Grímsnes and Grafningur. It covers an area of 2.45 km² at a height of 80 m. Its depth can reach up to 20 m.

On 13 and 14 august there will be a special offer of a 5-hours-tour over a glacier in a big truck. This tour is not included in the camp fee. Who wants to join has to be prepared to pay an extra of 49.50 Euro. For the participants staying in camp there will be an alternate program.
The truck can carry up to 40 persons. It will start every two hours from the bottom of the glacier, and that means if we start the first trip at 07:00 from Úlfljótsvatn we can »transfer« 160–200 persons each day. So we hope we can show you all our glacier and a small part of Iceland.
